KPOP DEMON HUNTERS

Netflix · Mattel · 2026/27 Action Figures

Netflix had a style guide for the property and Mattel had an established line look for action figure packaging. The work was reconciling the two through the contents of each package, through recognizable character traits, within a flexible system that allowed for pivots and surprises.

Character posing was the biggest challenge. Every figure was handled individually, due to sculpt, packaging constraints, and character personality. Packouts needed dynamic poses inside limited space, and extreme poses would lead to limb distortion caused by the molded blister. Back panel renders were built from film stills, which give you a character frozen at a prescribed angle.

I used AI to translate those stills into 3D pose references and sent them to my Mattel of Asia team as render notes. It removed the ambiguity of describing a pose in words across a language barrier and a twelve hour time difference, and it cut the rounds needed to get a render right.

The packaging runs bold color against a dark base, mirroring the tension throughout the film.
